WHERE DID I STAY?

The Berlin Marriott Hotel, Inge-Beisheim-Platz 1 Berlin, Germany, 10785 Tel: +4930220000 also bookable through www.marriott.com.

This hotel is an excellent hotel, centrally located within the city, and within easy walking distance of the Brandenburg Gate; the German Bundestag, (Parliament Building); and other buildings and  monuments. The hotel is also located in very close proximity to the Berlin Tiergarten, the subject of this entry.

The rooms in the hotel are very well appointed and comfortable. All of the hotel staff that I have had contact with, have all been very polite and extremely helpful.

PERSONAL FEEDBACK

Despite having visited Berlin on many occasions, I felt that I would be adding nothing to the knowledge or interest of a visitor, that is not already covered by numerous websites and blogs, Berlin being the attractive and vibrant city that it is.

However, despite this, I did think it worth adding an entry on my site about the Berlin Tiergarten. Because of the numerous things to do in Berlin and places to visit, a leisurely stroll, (especially in the Spring, Summer or Autumn), may be overlooked. The other reason for including the Tiergarten is that it is quite simply one of my most favourite places to visit and removes you from the "hustle and bustle" of a modern European city, if only for a couple of hours!

Tiergarten is the name of the central part of the city of Berlin but is also the name given to a huge park to which this entry refers. Located within the Tiergarten is the Berlin Zoo, (one of the nicest zoos in Europe) and the Victory Column with the winged statue. In addition within the Tiergarten there is a very well known cafe located on the lakeside called Café am Neuen See. This cafe is super lively, great fun and well worth a visit.

The Tiergarten is about 5 square kilometres in size and there are many, many walks throughout the whole area. As I have mentioned, Spring, Summer and Autumn, (when dry), are the best seasons to explore and when walking in the middle of the park, I can assure you that is easy to forget that you are in the middle of a city and for that matter the most populous city in Europe.
